How I Became A Life Coach

Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.

The truth is, I never really explored what I wanted to do with my life.

From an early age, I was absorbed into the family business and for almost two decades, I worked hard to grow and build two companies alongside my family and business partners, one in the tourism industry and one in the sporting events sector. From the outside, I was constantly pushing forward in work but inside I was yearning to fulfil something else.

When I look back now, there were little signs that I may not have been on my forever path and needed to change direction. I noticed that I often felt like a different person at work than I was at home and I was always very busy prioritising work instead of my wellbeing. I honestly believed that taking time out was a luxury not a necessity.

As the years went by, I began feeling as though there was a conflict between the person I was becoming and the life that I was living and it started to overwhelm me. However, I struggled with making any sort of career change. There was always an excuse not to, be it financial security, the fear of the unknown or doubt about transforming my identity.

Everyone has a story and every chapter is part of their journey.

The real catalyst for change came when I became a mother. I thought, how can I teach my children to lead the life they want if I can’t do it myself? Then as though to strengthen my resolve, the pandemic arrived and with it wiped away all of those things that had been holding me back, including the way of life that I had always known.

As with many people, it forced me to evaluate things in a way that I never have and really focus on what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. It provided me with a blank page in which to write a new story.

It’s true what they say, not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.

In 2020, I began a new chapter by starting my studies in Life Coaching with Neuroscience. I had always been fascinated by people, curious about their lives and how they lived them and always had this innate drive to help people make meaningful change. What was different about this period of my life, was that I now had the tools to help people make this change.

In my coaching, I draw from my own life experiences of being self-employed, my transition from working full time, juggling a growing family, my struggles and gains with balance and finally being comfortable in my own skin.

My journey hasn’t been easy and there has been many roadblocks along the way, however I have found a new confidence in knowing that I am on the right path.

For me, it was about finding the courage to throw all those balls up in the air, trusting in the ones that I was meant to catch and letting go of those that were meant to fall away.

It was all about investing in myself.
